Suspected shabu estimated to be worth P21 million was seized in Lapu-Lapu City


Authorities in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, have seized approximately P21 million worth of suspected shabu in a major drug bust in Barangay Basak on May 8, 2024. Here are some details according to the report of GMA Regional TV News.

Arrests Made

Two suspects were arrested during the operation on Wednesday night in Barangay Basak. The suspects were a woman and a member of the LGBT community. The estimated 3.1 kilograms of suspected shabu mark one of the largest drug hauls in Lapu-Lapu City this year.

The buy-bust operation was led by the Agus Police Station, commanded by Police Major Judith Besas, and carried out in coordination with the City Intelligence Unit. The unit was led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Dindo Alaras, with assistance from Police Captain Abraham Igot, the deputy chief.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan and his daughter Jasmine, the Basak barangay chairman, were present to witness the operation.

High Praise for Police Efforts

Police Colonel Ali Baron, director of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, praised the success of the operation. He noted that it was the largest drug haul in the city for 2024.

“The efforts of the Agus Police Station and the City Intelligence Unit in apprehending these suspects and seizing a significant amount of illegal drugs are commendable,” he said.

The suspects are in police custody, facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. Investigations are ongoing to uncover possible connections with larger drug networks.

Authorities urged the public to continue reporting any suspicious activities, stressing that community involvement is crucial in combating illegal drugs.
