Murder Groom

A wedding in Iloilo was unexpectedly halted when the groom was arrested on a murder charge just before he was set to exchange vows in a mass wedding ceremony at the Mayor’s Office.

Here are some details according to the report of GMA Regional TV News.

Arrest Warrant Served

The groom, a 29-year-old farmer from Barangay Marandig in Calinog town, was apprehended at 5:45 a.m. following a warrant of arrest issued for a murder committed 12 years ago. Police Major Fernand Limbungan, chief of the Calinog Municipal Police Station, reported that the suspect, known as “Nitz,” was arrested in connection with an accidental shooting in 2012. The shooting led to the death of his uncle during a struggle for a gun.

The groom appealed to proceed with the wedding ceremony before his arrest, but authorities denied his request. They adhered to proper legal procedures, refusing to allow the marriage to continue. Major Limbungan noted that the groom claimed the case had been settled at the barangay level. However, the warrant of arrest suggested otherwise.

Unexpected Twist at a Mass Wedding

The groom’s arrest added an unexpected twist to what should have been a joyous occasion. A mass wedding ceremony with several couples was scheduled, but the groom’s arrest interrupted the event. The arrest disrupted the groom’s plans to marry his partner. Witnesses described the scene as tense as arresting officers informed the bride and other attendees that the groom had to be taken into custody. The officers explained that the groom faced a murder charge.

The arrest serves as a reminder that legal processes must be followed, regardless of the context or personal circumstances. The authorities reiterated that an arrest warrant, once issued, must be executed without exception. The case is currently under further investigation as the suspect is taken into custody to face the legal system.

As the investigation proceeds, it remains to be seen how the case will affect the groom’s future and the impact on the bride and their families. The abrupt halt to the wedding ceremony underscores the importance of legal accountability and the complexities surrounding unresolved cases.
