Gabii sa Kabilin 2024: 10,000 Expected to Join Heritage Tour

Gabii sa Kabilin 2024

The much-anticipated Gabii sa Kabilin (GSK) is set to return on May 10, 2024, with organizers expecting a record-breaking 10,000 participants in this year’s heritage tour. Hosted by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Rafi), GSK promises an unforgettable journey through the rich history and culture of Cebu and its surrounding cities.

Embracing “Beloved Bisaya”

GSK 2024 adopts the theme “Beloved Bisaya,” drawing inspiration from 17th-century Jesuit missionary Fr. Francisco Ignacio Alcina. This year’s event seeks to honor and celebrate the rich heritage of the Bisaya people. From ancient traditions to modern innovations, participants will delve into the heart of Cebuano culture.

GSK will guide visitors through heritage sites and museums across four cities: Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Talisay. With each stop, attendees will uncover the stories embedded in the historical landmarks that define the region’s identity.

Starting at 6 p.m. and continuing until midnight, GSK promises an immersive experience filled with cultural performances, food markets, contests, and children’s activities. The opening festivities at Plaza Sugbo near Cebu City Hall will kick off the night’s festivities at 4:30 p.m.

Ticket Information

GSK 2024 sells tickets for P300, which grant priority entry, unlimited bus rides, a tartanilla ride, access to special activities, and a GSK map. Free tickets are available to residents, workers, and students from partner local government units, promoting widespread participation. This initiative aims to ensure inclusivity in this cultural celebration.

GSK 2024 is made possible through the support of various organizations, including the Department of Tourism in Central Visayas, Ayala Central Bloc, Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu IT Park, and Islands Souvenir. Together, they aim to showcase the rich tapestry of Cebuano heritage to locals and visitors alike.

A Journey Through History

GSK provides a diverse look into Cebu’s history, ranging from the Spanish-era Fort San Pedro to modern exhibits at the University of San Carlos Museum. This comprehensive tour captures both the past and present aspects of Cebu’s cultural heritage. With over 20 participating sites, attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for the cultural legacy that shapes the region.
