Fatal Incident

The Grade 11 student, gearing up for long-distance track and field training, met with an untimely demise as he climbed atop the goal post and hung from it. Tragically, the structure toppled, bringing the student crashing down and pinning him to the ground.

In the wake of the heart-wrenching loss, the grieving mother of the deceased athlete has called for accountability. She urges authorities to investigate the circumstances leading to the fatal accident.

School’s Response

While the school is yet to issue an official statement, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has confirmed that the institution has pledged to provide support for expenses related to the tragedy. Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Laoag City has taken proactive steps in response to the incident.

Preventative Measures

Recognizing the urgent need for enhanced safety measures, the DepEd Schools Division of Laoag City has initiated debriefing sessions for players and coaches. These sessions aim to prevent similar incidents in the future by reinforcing safety protocols. They also provide psychological support to those affected.

“We have already conducted a meeting and initial debriefing with coaches, trainers, and supervising officials to strengthen the safety measures for our athletes. The concerned learners, coaches, and trainers will also undergo a psychological debriefing to address the traumatic effects of the incident,” the statement reads, reflecting the division’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its students and athletes.
