Alleged ‘Possession’ Incidents Rock Jaclupan National High School in Talisay City, Cebu

Talisay City, Cebu, was shaken by reports of alleged possession episodes involving five students at Jaclupan National High School. The incidents, which occurred on March 4, 2024, have prompted concerns among school authorities and the local community.

Incident Details

According to GMA Regional TV News, on March 4, 2024, five students at Jaclupan National High School displayed distressing behavior. They were thrashing about and crying loudly. The school principal, Johnas Villaver, reported that four Grade-8 students initially complained of stomachache and shortness of breath before exhibiting unusual behavior.

The school’s history includes records of mass hysteria and possession in 2012 and 2018, prompting officials to take swift action to address the current situation.

Four of the affected students were dancers who participated in the Sinulog festival, experiencing fainting spells during the event. Subsequently, two cousins, aged 15 and 13, complained of stomach and chest pains after the festival.

Medical Attention

Despite negative examination results, the two cousins were taken to the hospital for medical attention. However, their symptoms persisted, leading to their eventual display of hysterical behavior at school.

Concerned families sought assistance from the Mary Little Child Community formation center, where deliverance rites were performed on the two affected cousins. Nuns who conducted the ritual identified signs of possession, although the students could not recall the events afterward.

A Holy Mass was offered for the healing of the affected students, emphasizing the spiritual aspect of their well-being. Additionally, the Department of Education-Talisay City Division and local authorities are providing support and counseling to students and their families.

On March 7, 2024, a session on psychosocial support is scheduled, reflecting efforts to address the emotional and mental well-being of students. Collaboration with the Talisay City Social Welfare Office highlights the community’s commitment to providing holistic support.

The alleged possession incidents at Jaclupan National High School underscore the importance of addressing both the physical and spiritual aspects of students’ well-being. The community rallies together to support affected individuals. Ongoing efforts to understand and mitigate the underlying causes are paramount for ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
