In a maritime incident off Lapu-Lapu City, a motor banca en route from Caubian Island found itself submerged in seawaters due to hull damage, marking a dramatic incident just past 6 a.m. on January 8, 2024. The fortunate twist to the story is that all passengers on board were successfully rescued by local fishermen hailing from Barangay Punta Engaño.

The passengers, including Lenlen Igot, Gil Limpangog, Jana Obando, Jade Balansad, Marilyn Inoc, and Carmen Abaño, were on their way to mainland Lapu-Lapu for essential supplies. The boatman, Orlando Igot, and his assistant, Johnfel Balansad, also managed to escape unharmed. In a video captured by passenger Jude Alo, a teacher among the rescued individuals. The boat was seen encountering protruding rocks during low tide. Resulting in substantial hull damage.
