Police reported that a 16-year-old boy died and an 18-year-old woman was severely injured when their motorcycle collided with a mixer truck in Dipolog City.

Here are some details according to the report of GMA Regional TV News.

Details of the Accident

According to the police, the accident occurred as the pair were returning home. Their motorcycle overshot and crashed into the side of an oncoming mixer truck. Neither the boy nor the woman was wearing a helmet, resulting in severe head trauma.

Doctors pronounced the boy dead on arrival at the hospital, while the woman remains in critical condition as of this writing.

“Actually, the mixer truck tried to avoid the motorcycle, but the motorcycle hit the side of the truck, causing the crash,” explained Dipolog City Police Station Chief, Lt. Col. Edwin Verzon.

Legal Proceedings

Police detained the truck driver after the incident. The police are currently awaiting the decision of the victims’ families to file charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injury against the truck driver.

Lt. Col. Verzon emphasized the importance of road safety, particularly for young and inexperienced riders. He urged parents to ensure that their children do not operate motorcycles if they are underage, unlicensed, or without proper registration.

“To all parents, we know it’s illegal to allow minors to drive. Even if they’re not minors, if they don’t have a license or the motorcycle isn’t register, it’s still illegal for them to drive,” Verzon advised.
