Sexual Abuse

Four minor siblings, alleged victims of sexual abuse and exploitation over several years, have been rescued in Lanao del Sur.

Agents from the National Bureau of Investigation-Iligan District Office carried out a rescue operation. They were joined by personnel from the Lanao del Sur Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and police operatives. They rescued minors from a house in Barangay Linamon, Ditsaan Ramain.

Here are some details according to the report of GMA Regional TV News.

Family Members Implicated

According to authorities, the alleged perpetrators are cousins of the victims.

The NBI-Iligan District revealed that the 17-year-old victim, identified as “Jane,” sought assistance after allegedly being raped multiple times by her cousins.

“The first abuse occurred in 2017, and it continued in 2018, 2019, and finally happened in 2023, after which the complainant fled,” said NBI-Iligan District Agent In-Charge, Atty. Medrobel Ylanan.

Extent of Abuse

The victims include Jane’s 16-year-old sister and her 15-year-old and seven-year-old brothers, who were reportedly forced to witness the abuse.

“It turns out that even the two siblings of our complainant, aged 15 and 16, also experienced sexual abuse from their cousins,” Ylanan added.

Authorities disclosed that the victims were also allegedly abused by their deceased grandfather before he passed away in 2023.

The NBI noted that the victims had been staying with relatives after their mother’s death in 2017, while their father worked overseas.

Legal Action and Support

Efforts to apprehend the suspects, who were not present during the raid, are ongoing. They will face charges for violating the Anti-Rape Law.

Meanwhile, the rescued victims have been provided with stress debriefing and medical intervention at the Municipal Development Office.
