Father Stabs Boy and Sister

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A tragic event unfolded in Barangay Lumbia, leaving a two-year-old boy dead and his four-year-old sister seriously injured after their father stabs them. This shocking incident has left the local community in mourning and raised concerns about domestic violence and its impact on families. Here are some details according to the report of GMA Regional TV News.

Tragic Incident Results in Child’s Death

The two-year-old boy died on the spot while his sister was taken to a hospital with stab wounds to her neck and body. She is currently recuperating from her injuries. The children’s mother expressed her shock and heartbreak over the loss of her son. “Wala ko ka move on sa akong anak nga lalaki makit-an nako nga patay na. Wala ko nagdahom ngano gipatay man niya og tuyo? Ana ko ayaw patya ang bata,” she said, unable to comprehend why her partner would commit such a heinous act.

The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) apprehended the 30-year-old suspect and recovered the knife and scissors used in the attack. While in custody, the suspect apologized for his actions. He stated that he was not in his right mind when he stabbed his children. “Mangayo ko og pasaylo sa mga bata nako kay akong napasakitan ang akong mga anak,” he said, acknowledging the harm he caused.

Possible Motive: Jealousy

Authorities are investigating jealousy as a possible motive for the attack. The suspect was reportedly upset after his live-in partner left him. The mother confirmed that she and the suspect had a heated argument before the incident occurred. “Sige man mi og away, ambot ana niya kay storya nila naa ko lalaki kauban daw pero wala man koy lalaki kauban kay naa rako sulod sa balay,” she explained, denying the suspect’s allegations of infidelity.

The COCO intends to bring the case before the City Prosecutor’s Office, with the suspect facing charges of parricide and frustrated parricide. “Karon paningkamutan sa Cagayan de Oro City Police Office nga ma-endorse ang maong kaso ngadto sa buhatan sa City Prosecutors Office,” stated Lt. Col. Evan Viñas, the COCPO Spokesperson. Authorities are currently detaining the suspect as he awaits legal proceedings.

This tragic event has left the local community in shock. It emphasizes the need for better support systems to prevent domestic violence and protect vulnerable family members. The community grieves the loss of the young boy and hopes for a speedy recovery for his sister. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of unchecked domestic disputes.
