A newcomer shipping firm, FastCat Shipping Lines (FCSL), is set to enhance sea connectivity in the Zamboanga-Basilan routes. The government’s approval of additional vessels for this operation has been welcome by the local business communit. Promising economic benefits for Basilan.

Members of the Bangsamoro business community expressed satisfaction as FCSL, under the leadership of Assistant Vice President Mark Saladino. Briefed Basilan Governor Hadjiman Salliman on their upcoming voyages. The FCSL’s passenger vessels are schedule to commence operations within the next two months, and preparations are underway. Including the construction of a ramp at the Isabela City port.

Victor Moore Infante Ututalum, President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Isabela City, emphasized the positive impact on Basilan’s economy. With currently three shipping companies servicing the Zamboanga-Basilan routes, including Aleson Shipping Lines, Montenegro Shipping Lines, and SRN Shipping Lines. The addition of FCSL was saw as a welcomed boost.

Governor Salliman conveyed the excitement of Basilan’s constituent mayors, anticipating the increased accessibility between Basilan and Zamboanga City. The existing shipping companies primarily operate roll-on, roll-off type vessels, with SRN Shipping Lines offering fast crafts.

Ronald Hallid Dimacisil Torres, Chairman of the Bangsamoro Business Council, and Bangsamoro Transportation and Communications Minister Paisalin Tago expressed optimism about the economic benefits and improved commerce resulting from the expansion of sea routes. Minister Tago is considering extending FCSL’s operations to the Zamboanga-Lamitan City route further enhancing the region’s maritime connectivity.

The prospect of additional vessels operating in the Zamboanga-Basilan routes marks a positive step towards bolstering economic activities and trade in Basilan. The collaboration between the government, local officials, and FCSL signifies a commitment to enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth in the Bangsamoro region.
