In the early hours of Wednesday, a grassfire erupts in a vacant lot near Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City, dangerously close to the Senate of the Philippines.

According to the report by ABS-CBN News, Romeo Gapido, Officer-in-Charge of BS Tiger Fire Volunteer, reported that the fire had already grown significantly when their team responded, according to ABS-CBN News.

“It was quite extensive when we arrived. The fire covered an area with a diameter of around 20 to 30 meters. It’s purely grassland without any residential structures,” Gapido stated.

The situation was critical, especially considering the proximity of houses behind the grassy area.

“We are primarily combating the fire here, and if left unattended, there’s a high possibility that it could spread within seconds or minutes, reaching the houses at the far end,” Gapido warned.

The distance between the origin of the grassfire and the nearby houses is approximately 50 to 70 meters, posing a potential threat to the residential area.

The responders faced challenges navigating through dense vegetation to reach the heart of the fire.

“It took us about 20 minutes to completely control the fire,” Gapido added.

Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the grassfire and ensure the safety of the surrounding community. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and follow safety protocols.
