In the early hours of July 3, 2024, a dramatic incident unfolded on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) northbound in San Felipe, City of San Fernando, Pampanga. Here are some details according to the report of GMA Regional TV News.

Sequence of Events

The accident occurred when an 18-wheeler truck attempted to overtake another vehicle amid oncoming traffic. The driver, facing a sudden dilemma, applied the brakes abruptly. This action led to a collision with a 22-wheeler truck ahead, forcing the 18-wheeler off the bridge and causing it to plunge approximately five meters below.

During its descent, the truck struck a power pole, causing electrical wires to fall and ensnare an approaching sports utility vehicle (SUV). Emergency response teams and police swiftly arrived at the scene.

Fortunately, the drivers of the 22-wheeler truck and the SUV escaped unharmed. However, the driver of the 18-wheeler sustained injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital. Reports indicate the driver is now in stable condition.

Investigation and Safety Reminder

Authorities are actively investigating the incident to determine any potential charges against the truck driver. PCOL Jay Dimaandal, Provincial Director of the Pampanga Philippine National Police (PNP), emphasized the importance of driver vigilance on NLEX. He urged motorists to prioritize safety, avoid reckless maneuvers, and exercise caution around larger vehicles, especially on busy expressways.
