Authorities Detain 186 in Raid on Angeles POGO Hub

In a significant crackdown on criminal activities associated with a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Angeles City, Pampanga, law enforcement authorities apprehended a total of 186 individuals, including 157 foreigners, during a raid conducted on Tuesday night.

Here are some details according to the report of The Philippine Star.

Details of the Incident

The detained individuals comprised 126 Chinese nationals, along with others from Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, South Korea, and the Philippines. Their roles, whether as suspects or victims, remain under investigation.

The operation, spearheaded by members of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) in collaboration with law enforcement personnel from the police and Department of Justice, targeted the Lucky South 99 firm located along Fil-Am Friendship Highway in Angeles City.

The raid was carried out based on a search warrant issued by a court in Malolos, Bulacan, prompted by complaints of human trafficking and other criminal activities allegedly taking place at the POGO hub. Reports received by the PAOCC indicated instances of sexual abuse against women and torture inflicted upon male foreigners within the facility.

Evaded Capture

Despite the large-scale operation, a significant portion of the POGO hub’s workforce managed to evade capture before the raid commenced.

Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the details of the raid, including the number of arrests made and the evidence seized, reaffirming the government’s commitment to combating criminal activities associated with POGO operations in the region.

Prior to the POGO hub raid, authorities conducted an anti-narcotics operation in a subdivision in Barangay Pampanga, resulting in the arrest of three Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in the distribution of illegal drugs to POGO workers. Authorities found the arrested individuals in possession of shabu valued at P3.4 million.
