In a recent entrapment operation conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Parañaque, a 23-year-old man was apprehended on Friday for allegedly extorting money from applicants to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

According to ABS-CBN News, authorities swiftly detained the man after capturing him accepting what they referred to as “marked money,” amounting to P30,000, from the victim in a captured video.
Reports indicate that the suspect promised the applicants a chance to enter the PCG in exchange for the sum.

Alerted Authorities: Swift Action Follows

According to CIDG, the victim approached the Intelligence Office of the PCG to report the illicit activity. Subsequently, the agency sought assistance from CIDG to apprehend the suspect.

Prior to the entrapment, the victim had allegedly paid the suspect an initial amount of P30,000.

The suspect admitted to demanding a “processing fee” from two victims, whom he claimed to know. “I just wanted to help them,” the suspect confessed.

“I made sure to clarify to them that there were no guaranteed slots, but I would facilitate their connection to someone. They did not assure that they would accept them,” he added.

The suspect now faces charges of Estafa or Swindling, as confirmed by CIDG.

Police Intervention and Warnings

Law enforcement officers took the suspect to the CIDG Southern District Field Unit for processing.

In a text message, R.Adm. Armand Balilo, spokesperson for the PCG, asserted that their organization had no affiliation with the suspect. He highlighted previous instances of individuals impersonating PCG personnel.

Balilo emphasized the importance of vigilance among applicants. He urged them not to entertain offers of assistance in gaining entry to the Coast Guard.

He advised applicants to directly liaise with their office for application submissions.
